Update From Belize
FEBRUARY 2011
Dear Supporters,
The year is definitely started. February started with a team whose leaders have been to Belize to serve with us twice before. Brian and Mary Lubinski returned with a team from Friendship Church. This team was busy from the start. They did a lot of hurricane repairs at the mission base, put in our new cement walk, repaired boat engines, helped the Bjorgens with their babies and did lots more repairs. On February 4th, 2011, Belize Mission and Retreat at Turtle Shores experienced their first men's retreat at the mission base in their 11 year history as men gathered from Gales Point Manatee Village and Belize City. Sixteen men learned eight things from God's Word worth living and dying for. The men were challenged to Kenbe fem (stand firm) in their walk with the Lord, especially when the winds of opposition to their faith blow strong.
The second team came from Lutheran Church of the Reedemer and they came and built a home for Scarpy and Marie Tillett who are very deserving in receiving this home. Scarpy has been very instrumental in building all the homes. This team are very interested in coming on a regular basis! We definitely need teams like this. They want to send their youth, medical and more adult teams annually to build a relationship with the village.
Basil & the Bjorgen's have been very busy making sure that the teams are taken care of and now the Boy's Discipleship program has begun with 4 guys from the village. They are being mentored by Kenny, Basil and John, and have a fairly tight schedule with devotions, bible studies and working. We'll see how this goes. We would ask that you pray for these young men they still have their lifestyle habits shall we say that are a hindrance to their moving forward with their spiritual lives that we know they truly are seeking but have a tendency to slip back into the old life!
Vera remains in Queen Creek, AZ taking care of Basil's mom who was in the hospital 2 times in Feb. Vera's mom was also in the hospital. Her mom lives in Tucson, approximately 1 1/2 hours from where she lives now. She has been going back and forth between the two locations to be with both Mom's.
We pray that the year is being kind to all of you and that your families are going to be blessed abundantly as 2011 continues to unfold before your eyes!
Blessings and prayers to all of you, Basil and Vera
