Update From Belize
APRIL 2010
Greetings from Belize,
April began with a team from our home church, CrossWinds Church in Dublin, Ca. This was a team of primarily high school students with several chaperon's, two of them came with the team two years ago. They were given the task of painting the government school in the village and painting & repairing the blackboards in each classroom as well. They raised the funds to cover the expenses for this. The school was in desperate need of a face lift, since the walls were badly soiled from the little hands that can't resist touching them. However, it is wonderful that there are those little hands to do the their artistic work on the walls, because this means they are getting an education. It is amazing how well the painting project went, since they only had 4 days to complete it. The main building, 3 classrooms, 2 portables and a kitchen, they all looking stunning after they were completed in the aqua green tropical color. The blackboards and blackboard dividers looked brand new when completed, and the classrooms were swept out, cleaned and organized ready for the teachers to return from spring break the following week. The Youth Pastor, Mike Mason that lead the High School group said that this was the best missions trip that they have ever had, everyone was blessed by their time in the village, developing relationships with many villagers that came to watch and assist. Many of the team said that they would definitely be returning to Belize on their next trip.
There was a wonderful reunion when Basil returned to the states on April 21st, to reunite with Vera after being separated for 3 mos. This is giving John and Mel an opportunity to be running the missions facility and the ministry while Basil is gone. A quick update on Vera, she is slowly taking steps in improving, we mean literally taking steps. She is able to now put weight on her foot and walk s-l-o-w-l-y with a cane. She has been in physical therapy to help promote the walking. In June Vera will be having a CT Scan to see what the Dr. feels will be the next steps for her recovery.
We want to thank all of you for the beautiful flowers and lots of get well wishes over the past few months. This certainly brightened Vera's recovery period. She has found that God uses you wherever you go, as she was able to lead her sister to the Lord upon her return. She also has been involved in a Bible study group while in AZ, and many have told her that they felt God had her back here just for them. This proves that God uses us wherever we are, if we are open to follow and listen to His leading.
We continue to pray for all of you who continue to struggle with the economy issues. You've been faithful in partnering with us financially and prayerfully and we want to prayerfully partner with you in sending up pleas for help for the recovery of our economy and job market. Remember as we are faithful to God, He will remain faithful to us!
Blessings, Basil and Vera
