Update From Belize

NOVEMBER 2009

Dear Supporters,

Yes, again November has come and gone! We're amazed how quickly that happened. Seems like it was just Nov.1st. We pray that your family was blessed with lots of family, friends and loved ones this past Thanksgiving and are able to count the many blessings that God gives you daily. I know we certainly have been blessed to have been doing ministry side by side with you these past 10 years. Amazing how fast that time has gone by, some think it was just yesterday, but we definitely have felt the 10 yrs go by.

Wow in retrospect November has been a rather quiet month. Not a lot to report. We had invited 3 missionary families to join us for Thanksgiving and they accepted. You know in the states you don’t have a problem finding a large turkey to feed all the appetites for Thanksgiving Day. However, in Belize that’s quite another story. I looked at numerous places for a turkey, the largest turkey I found was 9 ½ lbs. You can’t do much with that, so I also bought two humongous turkey legs, and while paying for it, I’m thinking where did they find the turkey with those legs, yet they can’t provide a large turkey to serve a large group of people? I was able to get all the fixing pretty much I did stretch a little with the imagination.

The night prior to Thanksgiving, the rooms were ready for the guests and the food had been prepared as much as you can the day prior to the major cooking, the turkey was ready. We got a call from one of our guest to let us know she had to take her foster daughter, Denisha to emergency, so she didn’t know if they would make it. Denisha unfortunately since she’s been in our friends tender loving care has been pretty much dependent on her foster family for everything. She had brain damage from the abuse of her prior foster family and had severe cerebral palsy, she was being fed thru a feeding tube.

Thanksgiving morning I awoke to a message from our friend that Denisha was admitted to the hospital, they wouldn’t be coming and the other 2 families were on their way to be by her side. We wanted to go, but we had all this food to prepare and we felt we didn’t want to have so many people in the way. We checked throughout the day and days after. Basil decided to go into the village and asked numerous villagers to come join us in our celebration, so with smiling faces the guest arrived. We had a wonderful dinner and feel rather blessed to have been surrounded with people we have to come to love so dearly. Even our German neighbor was visiting and joined us as well.

The rest of November was fun as I had 3 girls from the village stay on till Monday, so we had a house full no matter what! I think that everything turned out just the way God would have wanted it. Although we were saddened to receive the news Sunday morning that Denisha had gone home to be with the Lord, yet we are grateful she is in the loving arms of our Father, dancing and running around like a little 3 year old should be. The foster family caring for her is at peace as well. Times like these make you realize not to take life for granted, make every moment count and let those near and dear to you know just how much you love them and appreciate them.

We thank the Lord for blessings us with such faithful friends, prayer warriors and supporters who have stayed with us over all these years you truly are a blessing to us. We pray blessings upon each of your families thru these holidays.

Forever Blessed, Basil and Vera
